So i'm very new to all this but im enjoying yet another excuse to leave the house and am becoming strangely obsessive about mushroom lore!
I *think* i might have identified these 2 found on the way back from work but am quite prepared to eat "how could you be that daft" kind of comments....
Possible 1) saffron milk cap/ lactarius deliciosus
this one was about 8cm across the cap, with some dark concentric circles.
growing on the side of the road, steep embankment under dense conifers.
Smells of common (shop-bought) mushroom but very sweet
bleeds bright orange when cut, after 2 hours it had gone much darker. gills went greenish when pressed.
There was a bit of a hollow in the stem when halved, the stem had dark orange blotches which were much more dense towards the ground.
possible and im fairly unsure of this one 2) split fibrecap
about 6cm across
growing on soil under conifer with lots of common earthballs growing near by
smells sour and maybe cabbage like
bright white flesh on the stem that was spongy and hollow on the insides that was a little bulbous at the base
deep warm brown cap that had few cracks about 1cm deep. It had lots of stripes around the rim of the cap and similar, smaller specimens were not so funnel like. The cap was shiny and almost tacky (lots of detritus stuck to it)
both found in august, bot on west facing embankments in (today, surprisingly sunny) west wales.
Im sure that you all may be bored of this type of post so thanks much for any help. i dont even know if im identifying from the right characteristics!
