Specimen taken from the New Forest under Scots Pine. Photos taken back at home just now in bad light.
Cap 6cm
Stem 10x1.8cm
Cap was slightly viscid, stem is fibrous, volva was in the ground, smelt sweet. |

I do think that A. virosa is what you have here, either that or white form of A. phalloides. If you have some KOH you could see whether you get a yellow colour reaction, this would indicate A. virosa, if not then A. phalloides. I have recorded A. virosa a few times now from the New Forest, more often with Beech though and later in the year. My specimens of this species tended to have a more fleecy stem from the volval remnants but this is not always present, more likely with very fresh specimens.

| | | Re: Amanita virosa? Nice find, I've only ever seen it once and thats when I was out with Hampshire Fungus Group. Anymore specimens where you found that as it's one well worth taking a pic of.
