| | | What is this fungi? I saw a large ring of these large fungi under hazel and beech trees in Brecon Beacons. I tried identifying them in my books but cant be sure. Is it hygrophorus eburneus, h. agathosmus, St. Georges Mushroom, Blewit, Giant Clitocybe, Clouded Agaric (this seems most likely), The Miller, Lactarius vellereus, L. flexuosus, Russula delica, russula cyanoxantha? This shows me just how dangerous it is to try to guess, even with a book. Can anyone help me? I can't see how to add the photos here (doesn't seem to work ...) but I uploaded the images (and now can't find them!) Golly, this forum is hard to work for photos!

this fungus is a Russula - clues from the shot of the gills are that those gills are fragile (see how easily they have been damaged) and that there are no intermediate gills (have a look at a shop-bought mushroom and you will see gills which reach the cap margin and not the stem - then look at this one)
your Russula resembles a washed-out Russula cyanoxantha but it is a big and very tricky group with well over 200 species in the UK, and most popular books will only show a handful
so this is where I bow out . . .
cheers
Chris

So we don't know if it is edible...!?
But how did you locate my images? I couldn't get them attached to the message and couldn't find them at all even though I uploaded them! |

uploading images should be fairly straightforward - you obviously got part way there - did you upload to the Image Library? if so when you post just click on the Library Images icon at lower right (sometimes if you have inadvertently opened it, it appears that is has ceased to function but a "Mypics" tab will be open . . . . at least in Firefox - don't know about IE - never touch it
cheers
Chris

I've copied your photo's to the thread: -

Explains all the details of uploading photos and then copying them across into your forum posts. (It's not that difficult if you read this carefully).

| | | Re: What is this fungi? Thanks, Mike and Chris. But when (in Firefox) I clicked on the library icon nothing happened, and I clicked many times and also waited many minutes! So I think that there may be a problem now and again on this link? But thanks for putting images on my thread. So as a result I also have no 'my images' yet. I will try again another day. |
