| | | Oak Polypore - Piptoporus quercinus Hello all
After a poor mornings start at Sherwood Pines Les and I decided to head for Sherwood Forest. This turned out to be a very productive foray which ended with Les finding the 'rare' Oak Polypore - Piptoporus quercinus on the heart wood of an ancient oak.
A good find made all the better by finding two more fruit bodies on another oak just metres away.
Given that Sherwood has about 1000 of these ancient oaks, there's a good chance that more are present.
John and Les
PS we also visited Clumber on Saturday morning. It is producing lots of fungi at present!! |

Yes, we have had a bit more rain up here and some places are certainly showing species in good numbers.
