| | | Any Ideas on these Tiny Ones ? Found several of these today, all growing directly from the decaying stems or leaves of tall grasses beside a mixed woodland path.
The largest fruitbody was no more than 5mm tall from base of stipe to top of cap.
My first thoughts were that they might be a species of Inkcap, but the books that I have don't show any species that would be as small as these.
I did actually bring them home, and by early evening they had disintegrated as inkaps usually do. - Very dark brown inky spore print.
Any thoughts on ID much appreciated.
Regards,
Mike. |

Mike. | Hi Mike
yes most books don't show them when they are this small (but, trust me, they do get even smaller!)
clearly one can't say exactly what from a photograph just of fruit-bodies, but they're not a million miles away from Coprinopsis urticicola
see: http://www.naturamediterraneo.com/Pu...39194928_A.jpg
cheers
Chris

I think Coprinopsis uticicola may be a very good call.
I've looked at the link as per your suggestion, along with several others for same species, and must say that (before they self destructed) the stipes on my specimens had elongated considerably, and they looked very like several photos that I've since found of that species.
(Obviously appreciate that I will never be certain, in absence of microscopy).
Thanks again,
