| | | Re: Lake District Fungi I don't know about "exciting" to eat, but the pencil museum cafe in Keswick has very good homemade soup, sandwiches and cakes, well it did 18 months ago last time I was there! |

| | | Re: Lake District Fungi Bless . . . . . I think you will find that people are often quite protective of their sites for edibles!
but for fungi in general, the Lake District should be good, especially with this recent rain, so enjoy - and if you find something you can eat, then that's a bonus
Cheers
Chris

| | | Re: Lake District Fungi Hi york and welcome to WAB.
You could try looking around the broadleaf woodland in Borrowdale, south of Keswick, park at NY 254168 or further afield in Fletchers Wood close to Colwith Force (waterfall) centred on NY 326038. Public access in both woods.
The latter wood is between Elterwater and the A593 Coniston to Ambleside road and I've found many edible species there.
Enjoy your stay. |

| | | Re: Lake District Fungi I would like to register my disapproval of threads such as this one.
Particularly when initiated as the inaugural post from a new member.
Wild About Britain is a site orientated towards the appreciation of the flora & fauna of our countryside, not as a means of locating it so that it might then be eaten!
I am not in favour of giving out specific site locations where edible fungi might be found.
Not in order that I might keep those locations secretly to myself, but because I wouldn't wish to engage in a situation that might result in lots of people trampling all over the site with no intent other than filling their collecting baskets. - WAB's forums are viewable by anyone and everyone who has access to the internet, and not all of those people will necessarily have particular concern for the interests of either habitat or wildlife.
Sorry if this reply appears on the blunt side, but I feel strongly about this.
If however, you wish to make use of, and participate in WAB's tremendous knowledge pool, then you will be made most welcome, and I hope you will stick around.
Regards,
Mike. |

| | | Re: Lake District Fungi Thank you for your suggestion, will have a walk around borrowdale. I hear that there is a good tea shop down there so will combine a forage with cake. I did not realise that other members would be so put out with my request so will terminate my membership in a bit. Not putting up with an argument online. So thank you for your advice once more, pitty others weren't as polite as you. |

| | | Re: Lake District Fungi I must admit york that I'm quite taken aback by the reaction to your first thread on WAB.
I didn't realise that fungi in public places had ownership as such.
When I gave the two locations I thought might be interesting for you, I particularly didn't say exactly where to find certain species - that's up to you to find them!
I wouldn't terminate your membership just yet, get your feet under the table and I'm sure you'll get good advice, there are some very knowledgeable members on here. |
