| | | Re: ID please I'll leave it to someone more experienced to try and suggest an ID, but one thing I learned very rapidly on here is that there is no such thing as a "run of the mill mushroom"!!
On the whole they're complex little beggars and most need spore prints and microscopes to identify for certain.

It looks to have the right colour cap for P salicinus but the stipe is too thick so not sure. Microscope anyone

cheers Stip | OK so we don't all agree on Pluteus and yes it could be an Entoloma.
Microscopes at dawn.

If you are total confused, perhaps I ought to say that it is very difficult to identify most fungi from a photograph with no other data.
It is very easy to separate Pluteus and Entoloma with a microscope as Entoloma have angular shaped spores.
Pluteus mostly (but not always) grow on wood, but this can be buried. Their caps can often be easily removed but this is not always a clear cut distinction. Pluteus have gills that are not attached to the stem, whereas Entoloma usually have gills that are attached to the stem, but apparently in some species the can sometimes be free from the stem.

| | | Re: ID please The spores of the two species are an instant identifying feature. Often the colour is different but in this case they are both shades of pink but an Entoloma spore (not specifically of the species we are talking about here)
and a Pluteus spore | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
