| | | Two I'm struggling with ... Hi folks - me again
These are a couple I'm struggling to get any sort of name for with my Roger Phillips book.
The second one had a light brown/ochre spore print and similar colour gills. Unfortunately I didn't take a spore print for the first one. Any help would be much appreciated - even the Genus would be a start for me.
Thanks

It would help a lot if we could take a look at the gills and if you gave some more info about your finds. Anyway, from what I can see, the first one could be a Laccaria sp., perhaps L. laccata. The other one might be an Entoloma sp., E. favrei being a remote possibility. |

I managed to find some more of what I think is the same species - they're in moss on top of a stone wall and there are no other fungi there so I think they must be the same but slightly more advanced growth wise. There were one or two young ones with a similar paler colour to the first one and the older ones seemed much richer in colour.
Looking at them more closely I thought they might be a Galerina spp.
I tried a spore print but they were so small (cap c0.5 - 0.7cm) and dried so quickly that I couldn't get much off them.
Do they give you any more clues. Thanks.

As for the caps drying too quickly when attempting a spore print, next time, put a drop of water on the cap, this will slow down the drying process. If it was a Galerina sp. it would be a brown spore print, if it was a Laccaria, it would be white.

Seeing the new pics, I think I'll agree with you that it's most probably some Galerina sp. I'm at work now, so I can't consult my books, but I will when I get home and, if I find something that looks like the ones in your pics, I'll write again.
Cheers! |

Cheers! | This one is proving to be quite a poser - I've spotted several possibilities in Galerina spp (incl: G. decipiens and G. pumila) and I'm sure there are more! |

My search didn't produce satisfactory results, so I wouldn't like to risk proposing only very remote possibilities. Your suggestions could well be close to the truth, but I can neither verify nor reject them. Microscopy is indispensable sometimes, if one has access to a microscope... |

Abfab fotos and I'm generally reely mean with adjectives.
They're some of the best I've seen.
