| | | Unidentified fungus in sphagnum bog I was in the Northumberland Cheviot Hills on Saturday (22nd May), and found these fungi in a patch of Sphagnum bog. It seemed to me that they were attached to sphagnum. The largest was 2.6cm tall, cap diameter 1.1cm, stem diameter 0.2cm. I'm having difficulty in identifying them, and would appreciate any pointers to help in this. Thanks. |

| | | Re: Unidentified fungus in sphagnum bog hi
this is what would until relatively recently been called an Omphalina; that genus has been revised in recent years and its members spread among genera - I suspect that this would now be considered an Arrhenia species - there are several sphagnicolous ones, but I don't know them well enough to be able to comment further
cheers
Chris

| | | Re: Unidentified fungus in sphagnum bog thanks Chris,
that's very helpful, and so prompt.
It's still difficult to get near to the species. The long decurrent gills and the very yellowish-brown colour eliminate a lot of possibilities. Has anyone else any suggestions for a species shortlist? | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
