| | | Early Risers Just found my first Bolete of the year with Leccinum scabrum. They were mature, at least a week old. Probably the earliest I have found this species. Before this, Leccinum duriusculum would of been my earliest Bolete fruiting during May and June with Grey Poplar.

Have you had much rain down there? Here in North Yorkshire it is very dry, and has been for ages now, so there seems to be very little around.

Melanie | We had a 24 hour spell of heavy rain about a week or so ago, now with the hot spell a few things are coming up. Laetiporus is beginning to blossom, I had five fruitbodies on one Oak tree today. I sense it won't be long before the first Russula. We are getting very heavy dues over night, which also helps. |

| | | Re: Early Risers three seen on the 22nd at a site where it appears annually near Huddersfield, growing with beech: first May record of Boletus luridiformis from Yorkshire of which I am aware . . . . nice that it should coincide with the asparagus season - a risotto to die for (not from! ); glass or two of Prosecco - "Saluté"
cheers

Chris | Thanks Chris. I had an email from Reigate, Surrey last week with pictures of Boletus impolitus measuring 20CM across. They are rather early hey?

Chris | no! there is an earlier one! Newmillerdam 15th May 2004 (interestingly also with Fagus) - Alan Braddock (ironically I was with Alan when the 2010 record above was made . . .)
