| | | Re: Early Risers Spotted my first Laccaria amethystina's of the year today:-
Plus a cluster of Otidea bufonia which is a good two months earlier than first spotted last year, along with several indeterminate red/purple Russula's.
And, while not now early, several dozen Amanita rubescens, some of which were impressively large. (but mostly slug damaged).
Oh - and a large Chaliciporus piperatus.
Regards,
Mike.

| | | Re: Early Risers Sounds like Hampstead Heath has slipped into 3rd gear Andy? Might be worth a trip up there soon then, assuming most of your finds have been on the heath?

| | | Re: Early Risers Yes all from the Heath. Bound to be more about, its a big area. I've really only recently been concentrating around my area of work, the Kenwood Estate, far easier to cover. I get to take a look at various other parts of the Heath during my forays and workshops. Also the Heath extension is literally around the corner from me so is an easy visit. |

| | | Re: Early Risers I haven't managed one Bolete yet but I did find a rather moth eaten Russula.
A dirty dark pink outer cap with much paler middle quite big at 11cm and it had a short stocky stipe. Out with Geoffrey Kibby's book
FeSO4 and Guaiac .
The Key
Cap pinkish A
Peels 1/2 I
Stem White K
10-20 cm M
Spores colour unknown at this stage.
Taste Mild T
Dermatocystidia W (pos Z)
This gives paludosa or curtipes neither of which I have seen before.
Although a lot of the micro details are the same like the papillate pleurocystidia
and the pp hairs
paludosa is found with conifer and curtipes with quercus (and fagus)
so as this was under oak Russula curtipes it is.
Unless someone says different

Grass verge on industrial estate near birch trees (what else!) Earliest for me. I'll have to take some more frequent walks around the estate. |
