If I'm passing that way over the next few days I'll take a look. I think I know where you mean. If you get a chance, maybe you could sneak a pic? That way we could be quite sure of whether its V. bomby or not.
Thanks

Mark | Have you been out and about in the New Forest? There have been some quite exciting things popping up on here from there, such as Amanita virosa just recently.

| | | Re: Early Risers Massive surprises when I went for a walk yesterday to a local hotspot, not expecting to see anything of any worth! I'd been walking for about 20 yards when I had recorded several Russula species, Mycenas, Psathyrellas, various Boletes (including a few really lush Ceps, including one weighing just under 450g!) Was very pleased that stuff was out and about, including a few unidentified and potentially interesting specimens in my box ready to hit the 'scope! |

I was working late last night on the Kenwood Estate and was driving through an area of the South Woods, there, caught in my headlights ( it was dark) were mushrooms sprouting from the edge of the path, I jumped out and in the headlights identified them as Russula violeipes, in very good condition, in a small clustered group. I took pictures in the daylight today. Also yesterday I had Xerocomus porosporus and both Rickenella fibula and swartzii. It is good to see things appearing at last, having had so much rain this past week.

| | | Re: Early Risers Yeah even we had the rain this week- buckets of it! It's obviously worked its magic! I got a couple of nice shots I'll put up as soon as I can. Some lovely Blushers were out too. It was just nice to be out there again and have a productive day, especially when I expected nothing! |

| | | Re: Early Risers Russula and Boletes are pushing up here now. Lots of Russula ionochlora, R. parazurea, some R. virescens, R. heterophylla what looks like R. silvestris (needs checking) and the best of all Russula maculata, a new record for Middlesex and for Kenwood and Hampstead Heath. B. edulis, B. radicans, B. porosporus, B. cisalpinus, B. subtomentosus and B. chrysenteron have all risen in the past few days.
Happy Days
