| | | Bog beacon Hi everyone,
This is my first post although I've been following the site for some time and have found it really useful in my amateur attempts to identify fungi.
Spotted these in the New Forest yesterday - a new one to me - according to my books they look like bog beacons? The books suggest they are uncommon so I wondered if others are being seen elsewhere at the moment?

Yes they are Bog Beacon. You are the first one to post photos of it this year, we can expect some others to follow.
I found it for the first time last year, and I was very exited, having searched several sites.
It is not common but is occasionally found at the sides of streams particularly in upland areas.

Many thanks for the response. That is exactly the sort of location in which we found them - in a narrow road-side ditch on the edge of heathland, opposite a larger boggy area.

Heather | You will also find them in the ditches of some of the Inclosures Heather. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
