I saw this quite impressive fungus at the base of an oak tree in Monks Wood near Huntingdon yesterday, and wondered what it was (sorry, I appreciate the photo probably doesn't show you all the things you need to make an ID). |

Actually that's the second time you've identified one of these for me, so I really ought to start recognising them for myself now!   In my defence, the last one I saw was in nowhere near so good condition and so looked quite different: 
I'm obviously not a fungi fan, but I do like to identify things I see on my walks. I see people have started reported seeing Chicken of the Woods, I'll have to keep an eye out for that on my walks. I've seen it three or four times before, and I'm reasonably confident of being able to identify it again. | | |
