| | hope it's ok ... I'm not from UK and just want to share my find ... Hope I haven't missed any rule about non-UK residents not being allowed to use this site!
I came across Wild About Britain whilst searching for a place to post pics of the fungus I discovered today in my garden ... I do hope someone will know what it is ...

It's Ok by me, and what an amazing exotic specimen which I hazard to guess that ladyhawk is close to ID'ing but pinning it down further to species may be somewhat more taxing. I recently had the opportunity to have a short, sharp foray at Storm River Mouth, Plettenberg Bay whilst on holiday in South Africa recently: Foray in South Africa (1) - Wild About The World
Hope someone can help you and Welcome to WAB and hope someone can help you.

P.S. Aseröe rubra could be a contender: http://www.mushroomexpert.com/aseroe_rubra.html

I AM wild about Britain! | Hello Neried,
More than welcome. You most definitely have a species belonging to the Phallaceae family, though which species is more difficult. I haven't actually seen any looking like that before. The closest here would be Clathrus archeri which is rare and has been introduced from either Australia, New Zealand or even Tasmania. You probably have a different species but it could be worth a little detective work on your part. I would be interested to see what you may come up with. Good luck.

An amazing fungus
The closest I can find is Lysurus corallocephalus
Have a look at: Lysurus corallocephalus (MushroomExpert.Com)

Not particularly
I find these fungi fascinating and I have a copy of Clathracea by DM Dring, however the line drawing of this species in this book is very poor so I searched Google images to find a photo.

| | | Re: hope it's ok ... I just want to share my find ... Woo-hoo! Thank you Peter ... I see on the Gbif.org site there's only one record entered, of a find in Mauritius. The GPS co-ords of this little beauty are:GPS S26.96032 / E032.81429. The physical location would be Kosi Moon, in the KwaMazambane area of Kosi Bay, Maputaland, north eastern KwaZuluNatal, South Africa! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
