I found these on felled birch.
Hypoxylon multiforme was on the top surface of the branches and these more distinct blobs were on the underside and sides.

The fungus does not have dissolvable pigments in KOH 10% (in water they certainly are soluble though, blood red), which appears to rule out
Hypoxylon. Spores are typically 8.1-9.2 x 3.9-4.4 um Qav 2.1.
Perithecia 300-400 x 190-290um.
If the pigments had been soluble in KOH I'd have thought these were
H howeanum. Any ideas?

P.S. The red in the spore picture is the pigment soluble in water.
