| | | Daldinia Whenever I have found a young Daldinia in the past it has always had a mat brown surface. Yesterdays find was almost like a blob of tar melting in the heat.
It was on the trunk of an unknown almost dead tree. Can anyone tell me if this form is common.
Also came across a Peziza on moss under a birch tree
and finally I know its not fungal but I love these little gems

| | | Re: Daldinia In my area Mal, I find that the new(er) growth is usually a dark dusky brown
and black in the old and dead ones.
Nice pic of the Sundew, Drosera rotundifolia.

| | | Re: Daldinia Hi all,
Just discovered this thread from a year ago whilst looking for Daldinia photos - It must have passed me by first time around.
I'm sure the first photo is of the myxomycete Amaurochaete atra. I've only ever seen it once, in a pine forest but it seems to have been recorded from deciduous wood too.
Not too many UK records of it so worth keeping an eye out
Cheers, Nick. |

I know exactly where it was so if there is a new fruit body I will study a bit more carefully and let you know.
