Am having problems sorting out which Trametes this is:
The bracket was growing on an old Birch stump, and extended about 50mm out. Context about 4mm max in depth and pore layer a similar 4mm max. depth.
The upper surface was very finely pubescent:
I was coming down to either
Trametes pubescens or
Trametes ochracea (
multicolor). The only ref. material I have to hand is Fungi of Switzerland and following that I was leaning toward
Trametes pubescens on the basis of not being able to see an orange brown layer under the hairs on the upper surface which it describes as a character of
T.ochracea.
The dimensions seem a little large for
T.pubescens though and the spores don't look right either for
T.pubescens, being rather thicker than suggested and seem more like the dimensions quoted for
T.ochracea.
All in all I've ended going round in circles and would appreciate a nudge in the right direction if possible.
Thanks in advance.
