| | | Small Fungus for ID Help Please. Not getting anywhere with this and would appreciate any help towards ID.
Found today, growing directly from soil, but in the middle of a large area that has been used for burning wood/scrub at a local nature reserve. Much burned earth & evidence of small pieces of charcoal everywhere amongst the soil.
The area concerned is not directly under trees, but Alder, Birch, & Holly are in the area.
Cap size approximately 10mm diameter, stipe height approximately 20mm
Regards,
Mike. |

I agree with John
at this time of year one would expect it to be Conocybe aporos - or Pholiotina aporos as we should really call it IMO
show me the spores and I could tell you for definite
so (using the nomenclature current in UK) you can safely label it Conocybe section Pholiotina sp.
cheers
Chris

Hi Mike,
I would go along with Conocybe aporos, it often has the smell of pelargonium. |

Regards,
Mike. | Mike, if you have a microscope and have a chance, take a look at the spores, if this is C. aporos it will be without a germ pore, hence the name aporos. If it has a germ pore then it will be a tad more difficult to pin down.
