egg box fungi id please

Ist post and great site. Ive been browsing for a while and have just found a reason to post.

Ive been growing this years harvest of peas in egg boxes and multipurpose compost in a nice warm and wet environment and have discovered a mushy in the mix. can anyone id it?

Its very small and maybe only about 3-4mm in size and kinda resembles an inkcap.



Also, can anyone give me an idea of what habitat/soil conditions morels grow in or an idea in the southeast (crawley and surrounding area) where id have a chance of finding any.

your fungus is indeed an ink-cap and looks to be in the region of the (newish) split-off genus Coprinopsis - see an image of young fruit-bodies of the dung-inhabiting Coprinopsis cordispora at: Coprinus cordisporus on horse dung - Wild About Britain Pics more than that one cannot say without microscopic examination of veil, spores and other features

I suspect that if any WaBbers in your area know of morel sites, they may just keep them to themselves . . . .
