| | | Using macro to capture micro fungi Hello all
Nettle Runner Les and I are surveying the ‘Pines’ this year at Sherwood Pines.
Until species begin to show in numbers we are concentrating our efforts on the smaller Ascomycetes and Myxomycetes often found at this time of year.
We are also experimenting with bellows and tube combinations to do justice to their often beautiful structures.
Quite often we find some 'wild' life amongst the fungi as this image clearly shows
Here are some Ascomycetes photographed using extension tubes:
Merismodes anomalus / fasciculatus
Lachnella alboviolascens
Mollisia species
Hopefully we can contribute some detailed images of these ‘micro’ fungi in the near future.
John & Les

| | | Re: Using macro to capture micro fungi Superb!
I'm becoming more and more intrigued by the tiny stuff as photographic subjects. (Even though I haven't the slightest chance of identifying most of the stuff).
It would be great if you could post details of approx magnification in the pics, extension tube "widths" etc. (as and when) with any pics.
Regards,
Mike. |

| | | Re: Using macro to capture micro fungi I have an extension tube which I add to my macro lens on my digital SLR, but I was not getting quite close enough, so I have just purchased a second extension tube to get closer, however when I put the two tubes on the camera together all the controls stop working, I'm quite annoyed as the Olympus tubes cost a lot of money. Is this something anyone else has experienced?
Has anyone successfully used more than one tube at a time on a digital SLR ?
Peter

Peter | Hello Peter
I am using three tubes (Kenko - auto) with no problems. I am also considering a second set because of existing problems using bellows ... for some unknown reason!
At home our lighting consists of two Led Lamps, which are proving to be ideal for macro work.

| | | Re: Using macro to capture micro fungi Great stuff John, these are often found when I take other shots, then spot the little uns and have to go back!
Not seen anything like your undidentifiable hobo though.................!
Any percentage in creating a specific thread, like 'pick up sticks' and so on for our tiny terrors do you think?
Cheers
