This does look to be Phragmidium violaceum (Bramble Rust). Rust fungi are hardly covered at all in popular field guides, although the Forayer is running a series of articles at the moment on the various rust genera based on some remarkable photographs shot by Steve Clements. Anyone who received the Winter 2009 issue and was 'hit' by the jaw-dropping image on the front cover will know just how fantastic they can look through the lens of a good camera and with an eye for striking composition. |
