Hi Andy,

The cap looks like it might be a bolete but without a view of underside and stipe difficult to say.
I know getting a peek at gills/pores generally means pulling the poor old fungus out of the ground, which is destrutive, but it really is the only way of getting any where near an accurate ID.

It is some sort of Bolete as I did pull it and it has tubes/pores, flesh was white and pores also.
I thought Bay boletus (xerocomus badius) possibly.

That was what I was thinking from cap but Bay's pores are are dirty yellow and bruise easily to dark blue and flesh goes a slightly blue on cutting.
