| | | Slug-like fungus - ID please? I thought this was a joke when I first saw it - I've never seen anything like it - and then that slugs had somehow got into the house. But no, it has suddenly appeared in the basement bedroom of a fairly modern house (ca 15 yrs old) with no history of damp.
Any possibilities as to identification please?
Many thanks,
Steve |

See Peziza cerea Sowerby, 1796 (Cellar Cup)
Not one to be feared of in the cellar, as far as I'm aware, but on the other hand not one I'd particularly want either ... and certainly not in a bedroom. There must be damp for it to be there, either penetrating or condensation, unless you habitually spill your drinks there when you open the door.

Melanie | a friend of mine pointed this species out on carpet in the boot of her car (though she didn't know what it was!)
fun for those trying to map fungal distribution!
a bit like athlete's foot and the London Marathon

This Coprinus (photo taken 25 year ago) was growing on the woodwork of my Morris Traveller car. Similar problem with where to record
Last night my bedtime reading was the Basidiomycete Check list. (It’s really good for getting one off to sleep) and I noticed that under Coprinus Xanthorix there are two records for this species on Morris Minor cars. I did not retain my specimen so I will never know if it could have been this species, when I collected it I thought it was C.radians due to the brown Ozonium, however I did not have a microscope at the time to check it thoroughly.

Totally irrelevant and off topic, but that reminds me of a TV comedy many years ago in which two ladies were visiting Stratford-on-Avon, looking at all the quaint old half-timbered buildings. A Morris Traveller passed by and one said to the other, "Oh look dear, a half-timbered van!"
OK, I'm going....

OK, I'm going.... | I think that might have been a Dame Edna Special
she also identified the tartan shop in Stratford as Macbeth's birthplace and proved that Anne Hathaway must have been disabled because many parts of her cottage had ropes around them - to help her move around, obviously!

| | | Re: Slug-like fungus - ID please? Yes, I do recall an Aussie accent now you mention it but your recollection is far better than mine Chris! Unless you secretly re-watch it on video.... The other lady must have "her" bridesmaid, Madge Allsopp....
Great to see you back her by the way - you were missed!
