I'm sorry about not attaching a photo; my camera isn't working currently. I'll hopefully be able to attach a photo soon!
Cap: browny orange colour becoming lighter towards the edges in places, sticky texture on top when moist, flattened but slightly convex, slightly irregular shape, smooth in the centre becoming slightly striated at the edges, 6cm diameter, smells of regular mushroom although when ripped and 'squished' smells a bit like tangerine or maybe quince
Gills: Of different lengths, white with very slight tinge of orange, more distant than crowded, adnexed
Spores: white or very close to it
Stipe: Very dark brown almost mistakable as black, not completely cylindrical (slightly flattened cylinder), 3-4cm long, 1cm wide, no taper, no ring, no volva
Height: 4-5cm
Habitat: living with a number of others of same species on a large deciduous tree stump, midlands/north west
Time of year: 19th February
I'm fairly certain it is velvet shank but just wanted to confirm; I'm very much a newly spawned fungi fan!
