| | | Mycena struggler needs help I`m hoping that someone will look at this and say "ahh yes thats definitely M. alcalina". I`ve studied my reference literature and looked at Gallery pics but still cannot convince myself which it is. The substrate may be willow but looking at it, it has a pine look about it, (I can check). I love the setting though, one of my better pics, taken with my old Nikon.
Cheers

| | | Re: Mycena struggler needs help Lovely photo Pete, a prize winner in the right competition.
I think the name ' alcalina' is no longer used, but apart from those dark stems, these could be mistaken for ' arcangeliana'. However you say the wood is coniferous, so we can forget arcangeliana then.
Uh oh, here's Mal, time for me to slip out the back door. (I know my place)
Neil.

Neil has said almost everything. Alcalina is now split between M. stipata and M. silvae-nigrae. Again as Neil correctly said with those velvet stems growing on Hardwood (which includes salix) rather than coniferous softwood you have a perfect example of M arcangeliana.

Ps you can come back now Neil |
