Hi guys. It's been a while......


Saw this yesterday in Lathkill Dale and would appreciate an ID on it....




When I uploaded the pic of the gills, I noticed the camera had picked up some tiny red blobby thingies that were also on the log!

What are they?

Hi Tracey, these are Velvet Shank, Flammulina velutipes, which are commonly about now, quite happy infrozen conditions.
The red spots may be a nectria, possibly a stage of cinnabarina, coral spot, the experts may be along to help with that one further - there are a few other small red jobbies it could be. Nectria peziza is a good bet.
