| | | Re: bracket type fungus for id please These look to be just ordinary Trametes versicolor which can be quite variable, so can catch a few people out, including myself.

| | | Re: bracket type fungus for id please If you have FoS Vol. 2 go to No.345 - Cerrena (Trametes) unicolor.
It's not a very good match, but it's the nearest alternative look-a-like I can find.

Mal | Same thoughts crossed my mind and I remember similar finds in Jan 2009 that were never fully resolved but the thread threw up some interesting suggestions: Small Brown Bracket for ID

| | | Re: bracket type fungus for id please Well, I must concede looking at the photo again and reading the description of Ischnoderma resinosum as having alternative zones of black and brown on the surface and being 'velvety' that this is more likely to be the culprit.

David | Unfortunately the velvety young brackets that JP and I found on Prunus was never verified, but Ischnoderma resinosum seems likely in retrospect. Time to go and have another look at the site in Bowdown Wood methinks.
