| | | Fungus in soil amongst ivy and under Hawthorn Hello all
Whilst at Thorpe Salvin woods, Les and I found this scrappy clump of fungus growing on soil amongst ivy and under Hawthorn.
Almost Chanterelle (white) in gill appearance but discoloration due to age more likely. Thoughts of Clitopilus / Clitocybe but would welcome comments.
Any help much appreciated

| | | Re: Fungus in soil amongst ivy and under Hawthorn Hello,
in my opinion this is Camarophyllus niveus, the stouter form which has sometimes been called Camarophyllus virgineus. The discoloration is due to age and dryness in my opinion, not a species character.
best regards,
Andreas

Neil. | I thought we had Neil!
It's a shame I didn't notice these when I passed them a few days earlier. It was eagle eyed Les who spotted them

Neil. | Hello neil,
oh, I mixed it up! You are right, virgineus is the name of choice and niveus is the synonym. But I stick to the genus Camarophyllus separate from Hygrocybe and will be pleased when moleculare data one day will show that I'm right ... hopefully
best regards,
Andreas
