With more info we might be able to give you it's scientific name.

| | | Re: Turmeric coloured mushroom-Anyone? I never realised the homebase is Japan, as I do not know of anything being this intense yellow growing on wood in Britain, although some Pluteus spp. come close.

| | Re: Turmeric coloured mushroom-Anyone? Woaaah, cool down people, I'm no expert and imagined a lot of people on here were or at least had a lot of experience with many fungal species. Just hoping that someone may have come across something similar to this.
The cap is vivid yellow as can be seen in the picture
The stem also very yellow as can almost be seen in the picture
The gills dark brown
It probably remained in good condition like this for over a week until eventually it was rained off.
Discovered at 1200m altitude in the mountainous forests of Japan

| | | Re: Turmeric coloured mushroom-Anyone? The trouble is the last time I went to Japan was never, and the last time I read a book about Japanese fungi was never, (although I have read a book on Japanese Slime Moulds !) but I really would like to visit.
I believe WAB has a sister web site called Wild About the World, but it hasn't had a mention on this site for some time, so I've no idea if it is still running.
You may have better luck there.

| | | Re: Turmeric coloured mushroom-Anyone? Ok then, so no-ones willing to rise to the challenge.
I thought you guys might have been better than that.
I was back in the UK in November and did come across quite a few species that are over here in Japan and I imagine (though don't quote me on this), that there must be quite a large percentage that are the same what with climate and growing conditions being quite similar in the part of Japan I reside in.
In Autumn at least!
Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction anyway
Oh,here are is another image that might help.
And can we say the gills are light brown?
