| | Re: Vivid Red Mushroom - Unknown Many thanks for the reply, on checking endless images of this Strophoria it seemed doubftful due to the brickcap like colour but I have found a couple of images where it is looking closer to vibrant red, this image was taken in wet conditions though giving it that glossy vivid effect i guess. | | | Re: Vivid Red Mushroom - Unknown Not absolutely convinced myself now.
Just took a look at a couple more images I had and the stem seems to be reddish as in Hygrocybe coccinea and the gills also somewhat reddish! |

| | | Re: Vivid Red Mushroom - Unknown As with your Turmeric coloured fungi, IF ONLY you'd have included this photo before it would save us having to make wild guesses.
It does look like a waxcap, but also seems to be growing from wood (?) - something else you MUST tell us about if we are to help you.
By now, I hope your attention has been drawn to the 3rd sticky down on the main page entitled "Help us to help you ..... "

| | | Re: Vivid Red Mushroom - Unknown Yes your right Neil, to be honest I was'nt thinking that much ahead when I created those posts in haste. Albeit I can safely say I have learned my lesson and only on reflection can I truely appreciate the error of my ways.
And after realising that I actually had a few shots of the Gills!
Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for being patient, I will get there in the end.....
Oh this one not growing from wood though, just forest floor detritus, fallen leaves, twigs and the likes. |

| | | Re: Vivid Red Mushroom - Unknown Hello MaN,
are you really sure that the pictures you show represent the same species? I have stong doubts about that. The 2nd picture clearly shows a Hygrocybe species, very likely H. coccinea (or H. marchii, if this is accepted as species). The first picture differs in a remarkable white stipe which has no "glassy" appearance and the umbonate cap - a character quite unusual for Hygrocybe species. So this first one might very well be Leratiomyces ceres, a species I have never seen and am therefore far from being certain.
best regards,
Andreas

| | | Re: Vivid Red Mushroom - Unknown I know it seems a bit mis-leading but there was a small group of them all in varying degrees of maturity. All the others do seem to have that reddish stem though it could be a reflection from the gills? | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
