couple of ids

hello fungi folk

went for a walk around colwick park in nottingham today, where there is always an array of fungi growing on the large chopped logs they have placed around the lakes.

found a couple which had me 'stumped

the first is one which i was quite excited about, following discussions of the species on the boards on a few occasions in the past, as i think it was Schizophyllum commune. i haven't got any experience with this species, but thought the 'jizz' was right. failing that i suppose it could be Crepidotus of some sort.

the second is more difficult, as it has been photographed REALLY badly, as i was playing with my new raynox macro attatchment, and only had that or my zoom lens, i only took pics with the raynox, and didnt realy think about posting it here, so didnt get any interesting features. the only thing i can say is it had purple on it. thats why i found it interesting. sorry about the photo, but any ideas????

Yup, the first is Split Gill alright, the other is either Chondrostereum purpureum, if not, Trichaptum abietinum (if on Conifer wood)

nice one, thanks neil. not got a clue what wood it was (didn't really take note tbh

). happy about the split gill though, its a nice looking fungus and it was all over the log! there was a surprising amount of fungi about today actually, good day out, haven't been that mad on fungi recently, been all about the birds
