Oxyporus populinus ?
With very few trees on South Uist, bracket fungi are unusual. This was photographed on a log (firewood, unknown origin - could have been driftwood) on 24/12/09.
Any comments on posible id would be appreciated thank you.

This one's not so easy, and difficult from your photograph, so I will leave it for someone else to have a go.

I wasn’t sure that the pore surface was grey enough, but I suppose it could be.

I have since looked up more images and read up on the species, which does fit very well.
