| | | Re: Fungus on rotting sweet chestnut cupules Here's another from our Sunday's foray, found in a Sweet Chestnut Cupule
Unfortunately it looks to be an imature specimen, so not much chance of an ID.

I'm way out of my league here John, so can't suggest anything, but how the hell did you spot this ?
A really fascinating find, and brilliant photo again.

Neil. | All you have to do is get down and look. I spotted a small fruitbody on a twig which was Mycena adscendens and within 5 minutes and without moving more than a couple of yards I added M spirea, epipterygia, metata, mucor and polyadelpha . I found almost nothing more in the next hour but it had been a good foray.

Neil. | Hi Neil
It was purely by chance when Les was looking at the white 'blob'
He had set the cupule up on a stump to photograph and nearby on the stump were other cupules which had a 'brown area' that seemed different. Closer examination with the hand lens revealed their true identitiy .... well at least that of another fungus!
I just hope we can find more this weekend to send off to Kew.
