Welcome to WAB. I think you better read the second thread about edibility requests.

| | | Re: Identification, sulpher tuft or velvet shank? Ah yes I understand now! Thats a sensible rule! So I promise this mushroom wont be eaten now so what is it??? I am new here. I did spend 4 years working as a scientist for a fungal research company though and have published papers relating to filamentous fungi so I am not daft LOL |

| | | Re: Identification, sulpher tuft or velvet shank? Ah, so in that case I can confirm it's the Death Cap
You surprise me, all that knowledge and you are unsure with this common edible ? Oops, slapped wrist, I did not confirm this as F.velutipes.

| | | Re: Identification, sulpher tuft or velvet shank? Sorry I didnt mean to sound like a know it all or smart ass I worked with aspergili species and have become fascinated with wild mushrooms and my lab experience means nothing when it comes to IDing wild species. I just meant I am not the kind of person to pick something without knowing for CERTAIN what it was! Thanks for the reply though =] |

| | | Re: Identification, sulpher tuft or velvet shank? Stick around Paul, as I might want to ask you a load of questions on organic compost heaps which my boss/friend chucks his dog's muck into and I have to chuck in the barley straw soaked in chicken guano from the chicken shed.
It's when I turn over the muck, I'm afraid of breathing in all the Aspergillus spores, but I do not and have never smoked, so I should be OK shouldn't I ?

| | | Re: Identification, sulpher tuft or velvet shank? I have worked with a consultant/professor (Dr David Denning) who specialises in aspergilus related asthma so I can prob answer your questions. As far as I am concerned AVOID breathing in the spores. But I could be of more help if/when I get involved with his company/research grants as I may soon. But I want my mushroom identifying first!! =] |
