| | | Tunstall Hill, Sunderland - Fungi 23.1.10 After recent heavy snow and icy conditions, quite surprised to find several species of fungi.
If I'm correct with ID:
1. Tubaria furfuracea - locale amongst gorse cut back
2. Velvet Shank (Flammulina velutipes) - also amongst gorse cut back
3. Blue Leg (Lepista saeva) - very old but identified from number of specimens in Nov/Dec
4. Auricularia auricula-judae
5. Not quite sure about this one; individual brackets are around 1-2cm. I believe this may be Coriolus versicolor. Unidentified tree.
6. Absolutely no idea about this species - any advice would be appreciated? I wonder whether it may be start of Artist's fungus (Ganoderma applanatum) |

| | | Re: Tunstall Hill, Sunderland - Fungi 23.1.10 I would agree with 1 and 2.
No. 3 Probably Lepista sp but separating them can be problematic.
No. 4 Agree
No. 5 There are other contenders.
No. 6 I don`t think this is Ganoderma, possibly Bjerkadera adusta. |

Thank you for your reply. Would silver-leaf fungus (Chondostereum purpureum) be a contender for no. 5? |

Not really, I would expect more purplish tinges especially underneath. Maybe a proper mycologist will come along and comment. The unusual presentation of your pics may be putting people off, I had to scroll all over the place to look at them.
Cheers

| | | Re: Tunstall Hill, Sunderland - Fungi 23.1.10 Andreas is a proper Mycologist, I am just a wannabe (that means 'would like to be' for Andreas's benefit) but I'll chuck in my 2 pennysworth (or 2 pfennig's)
1. Correct
2. Correct
3. I would agree Lepista saeva (as most likely) !
4. Correct
5. Trametes versicolor
6. Difficult at this stage, but I would think this will be a Ganoderma sp. although the large pores in the last photo worry me.

| | | Re: Tunstall Hill, Sunderland - Fungi 23.1.10 Hi Neil,
why do you put your light so low? In each stage of knowledge each of us still keeps on being a wannabe, no?
And your answer could have been word by word mine, so exactly, that I thought first I had posted yet Then I realised it couldn't have been me because there were no spelling mistakes
best regards,
Andreas
