| | | Weird and Wonderful
Hi All
Found this oddity growing in a Beech wood on the centre of a tree stump surrounded by a very juvenile Coprinus Sp. diameter was approx. 10cm. Best way to describe it would be a Potato with mould growth.
I know you like a challenge so what is it?

Looks as though it's a bolete gone seriosly mouldy.

Can say it is not a bolete or related Sp. also have doubts as to whether it is actually a mould. The brown coloured liquid is actually a jelly like substance. Got an idea what it may be, but will refrain from saying at the moment not wishing to make a complete idiot of myself, well not just yet anyway.

| | | Re: Weird and Wonderful Well I will reveal all.
The bit in the centre that looks like a potato is actually a Stinkhorn - Phallus impudicus egg.
There were quite a few within a small area but only this one was affected.
I can only assume that it started to release its gelatinous substance which in turn became infected with some sort of slime mould.
