| | | morning all and hello just wanted to say a big hello ,have been reading posts for several months now and thought it about time to join in.
i was wondering if there were any other members in and around the bedford area that wouldnt mind a complete newbie joining them on the odd occassion.
last year i happened upon a large specimen of laetiporus sulphureus(i think),also several troops of chlorophyllum rhacodes (i think).
would love to get a positive id for these are they are all very local to where i live.
many thanks

A big welcome to WAB from me, and I hope you find some Fungusy people near Bedford. I am not sure where your nearest Fungi group is, but I expect someone else will be able to provide this info.

| | | Re: morning all and hello A big HI ! from me too Jeanette.
Unfortunately the main fungi season is over now, so I would think quite a few groups have gone into hibernation until the Summer, but there are fungi to be seen all year round, and indeed there are some groups which foray all year round and if so, hopefully they will make themselves known to you, if from your area.
In the meantime, fire away with any fungi queries you may have.

You could try the Bucks Fungus Group who conduct forays up and down the county (which as you will know is kind of long and thin!). We had a foray in Milton Keynes recently (October), and there are usually others in the calendar which wouldn't mean you travelling too much. Let me know if you would like me to send you a foray programme for what is left of this year (the programme runs from May onwards, so most of the forays in the current period have been held, but there will be a programme for 2010 in due course).
Or you could try the Beds Natural History Society Bedfordshire Natural History Society.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
J.
