| | | Frosty Hygrocybe Came across this frosted Hygrocybe (?) the other day in an upland field - is it H. chlorophana? |

| | | Re: Frosty Hygrocybe Hi Jenny,
Sorry I haven't replied earlier - the cap is supposed to be sticky with a dry stem and it is not easy to make out from your photos, but I cannot think of anything else they could be (and I expect you know your Hygrocybes better than me now)

| | | Re: Frosty Hygrocybe I wouldn't like to put a name to your Hygrocybe, it could be a few as the frost can change the colour somewhat. Probably why your thread has been rather quiet ....

| | | Re: Frosty Hygrocybe Thanks Neil and Melanie - this one had better get filed as Hygrocybe sp. I was surprised to see it surviving the frost and freezing conditions. |

| | | Re: Frosty Hygrocybe Hi Jenny - just as spp seems the best route I agree, but nevertheless, it does look close to Chlorophana, with the yellow faded to a more tanned (!) appearance perhaps. Certainly its one of the upland acidic substrate species we get.
Just for interest/fun, this shows a few Hygrocybes that are clinging on too, but yours must take the record?
Cheers

| | | Re: Frosty Hygrocybe Hi Ken, if yours was the last perhaps mine is the first?
I'm about 600 foot up here but though its very cold and frozen we haven't had more than a thin powdering of snow. Serious cabin fever setting in as all roads out are black ice. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
