| | | Re: Various Un/identified fungi of Season Hello Brubaker,
that no comments to your picture have come up to now, inspite of 40+ views, is probably not due to christmas and new year holidays, but due to the quality of the pictures. They are nearly all unidentifiable even what concerns genera or families. The only realy good foto is that of Phaeolus schweinitzii - correctly identified by you.
No. 1 could be all, including a dead slug or a flower or whatever. If you are sure that it is a fungus it could well be Fistulina hepatica, or a misborn Anthurus archeri or Clathrus ruber. Just judging from the colour, because other features are not clear enough.
no. 2 is no Volvariella, because there is no yellow capped species in this genus. The pictures don't gives hint to a certain genus, in questions are Pluteus, Pholiota, Gymnopilus, Flammulaster and certainly some more which I don't think of at the moment.
no. 3 can be all - fungus or not - but that it should be a gasteromycete is more then unlikely from the habitat. I don't know of any growing on the bark of standing trees. May be it is a very young polypore, may be it is a sort of a Xylariaceae. May be it is something totally different.
no. 4 could be Agaricus augustus, or may be Gymnopilus junonius. Surely there are other possibilities too. No gills are seen, no view from the underside, no hints towards smell, discolourations, habitat etc.
no. 5 is Phaeolus schweinizii
no. 6 is a Boletus from the Luridi group. "purpureus" is a name that can not be used because if many different interpretations. The rather pale blueing of the flesh is interesting, but as you show neither the cap nor the stem surface, it is impossible to say anything to this. The only species which can definitely be excluded within this group is Boletus rhodoxanthus.
no. 7 is very probably Boletus erythropus (or B. luridiformis if you prefer this name).
best regards,
Andreas

Your photos, being on the small side, to not show sufficient detail to be certain of an ID - with Boletes, it is important to show the stem markings, also you have given no background info such as any taste or smell, colour changes, habitat, etc,.
Anyway, lets see what we can do:
1. Most likely correct.
2. More probable a Pluteus sp.
3. Not obviously a Puffball, they are overexposed and I wouldn't like to guess at this - remember these are growing from wood.
4. Most likely correct. Please don't send in photos with half the stem missing.
5. Correct.
6. Insufficient detail/information.
7. Possibly.
EDIT. I knew it, I knew it, Andreas beat me !! |

| | | Re: Various Un/identified fungi of Season i don't see any problem with those IDs! nice selection brubaker, but yes the photos are too small and don't show enough detail, its neccessary to capture all of the important characteristics.
cheers
