| | Pretty, but another one I can't ID! I found this on only my second day out - before I learned to take notes, look at the gills, smell it, pick it, bruise it etc! It's the only photo I have of the only specimen I've seen and I haven't the faintest idea what colour the gills were. Please can anyone help?
I did wonder if it could be a Yellow Stainer - Agaricus xanthodermus? It was in a Cotswold Beechwood if that helps any... |

| | | Re: Pretty, but another one I can't ID! Hello Solus,
I think it's more likely to be a A. silvicola seeing all the leaves around you were in the woods
This is an excellent yummy but you have to be v.careful as easily confused with nasty amanitas
Gills: Pale pink to brown
Stipe: Bulbous without sac.
Odeur: Strong aniseed.
Cap and stipe often have yellow stains on them.
Took me a while before I dared putting this one in the pan
Bon appetit
Once again ID from a single photo is like betting on horses.
Chris

Yup, I was -am - in the woods in more ways than one with all my ID problems.
I'll have to take your word about the yumminess or otherwise - any mushrooms I plan to eat will come from the supermarket!

Very probably an Agaricus silvicola or the closely related A. excellens. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
