Blewitt impersonator?

We've just been visited by a friend who picked and cooked what was thought to be Blewitts. However, he was fairly poorly for 48 hours following his meal, so either they were not Blewitts as thought, or they do not agree with everyone. So, don't take chances eating fungi unless you are sure of its identity.

Blewits don't agree with everyone, even when well cooked. Having said that everyone should definatly be careful with them, after all there are some pretty poisonous species in Clitocybe.

Some people are allergic to Blewitts as Gladstone has said so they could've been blewitts or something else - who knows?? As well as Blewitts, Shaggy Parasols and Honey Fungus are another 2 that some people are allergic too.

Even perfectly edible fungi can give some people an upset stomach either by poor preparation/poor condition of fungi. There is a substance in fungi known as 'Chitin' which some people have difficulty dealing with, which can also give a poorly tummy. I do occasionally eat wild fungi, but not too many because my stomach disagrees with too many.
