| | | MushroomObserver Hello, this is my first post to the forum.
I am actually no where near Britain, I am in California, US, but I have been stumbling on topics from this forum when I do google searches for years now.
Any way, I am pretty active on a couple of other Mycology sites, including www.MushroomObserver.org, and I know a couple of members here post observations there as well.
Despite the unattractive layout, the site is actually a really great resource, and is growing quickly. The only really obvious draw back is that most of the active contributors are from California! Although there are people posting from all over the world, there is a concentration of finds from the West Coast US... It would be excellent to see this change and get some diversity of species. It would also be really interesting to have some more European collections to compare with some of the similar taxa from elsewhere that are often arbitrarily labeled as European species.
Well that is all... Just attempting to bridge some of the geographically disparate mycology communities in order to gain better understanding and build on a useful resource in hopes that it can become a better tool for those outside of the US.
It would be nice if you could find the time to share some of your past finds, as well as new finds on the site. Hope to see you on MO!

| | | Re: MushroomObserver Hi P, and welcome to WAB
Not trying to steal WAB'ers away to MO, are you? What WAB'ers are there then, I wonder. Anyway, I hope you stick around here
Take care, Jason |

I heard that Andreas Gminder posts on WAB too..?
I may stick around, though I won't have any European finds to share. It seems like there are some pretty knowledgeable folks on here, which is why I have come to this community.

hmm, hmm, the bush drums were talking
MO is a nice place to communicate with american (hobby) mycologists. There are a few from europe too and there are even fewer which know both floras (Dimitar Bojantchev e.g.). One problem is, that many pictures are, öhm let's say of lesser quality ..., and second (and more important) is that usually no specimens exist. Same as here b.t.w. It's frustrating to see interesting finds, which would be important for someone to fill gaps in his knowledge - but no exsiccate to examine
A great advantage of MO to here is, that you keep the rights on your pictures you upload. This seems on WAB not the case, as I learned some days ago. I have not noticed that earlier unfortunately, but this is of course unacceptable and forbids me to show fotos here further.
All who want to have a look into the american world of fungi are encouraged to have a glance in MO, but of course MO does not replace WAB in any case.
bestr egards,
Andreas

| | | Re: MushroomObserver Hi Andreas,
I really enjoyed the photos you posted some months ago showing the countryside where you live with your family, and some of the fungi which grow there in their natural surroundings, and I would really like to see how Jena looks at Xmas time.
Do you have a lot of snow hiding all the fungi ?

and individuals are quite capable of readng the site's T&Cs in order to make up their own minds about whether or not to submit images.

| | | Re: MushroomObserver Hi there Psathy,
If you think I'm gonna write Psathyrellaceae ..... ahhhhh ! you have another thing coming.
Neil.
Edit. Think I'd better make that 'Psath' - it's more masculine and even shorter !
