Did anyone other than Mike (Lancashire Lad) find any this year? I missed them in all three of my known, prolific locations

I have never found this fungus. I do not think there is much of it 'Up North'
If anyone does no where it grows in the Midlands I would be interested to know.

They can certainly be found up north Peter. 
These were found (well over 200!) in my local wood at Eckington in Derbyshire. In the same area only a few feet away was Strobilomyces floccopus

I will have to make a visit next autumn as I have only found Strobilomyces once and that was a very ropy specimen near Matlock

Looks like you were unlucky, because I found huge quantities a week ago. There were so many that my basket was almost overflowing (I have loads dried for the winter) and I barely made a dent in them. They were in areas familiar to you so I guess you were just unfortunate. There might not be much left now under all the snow! |
