| | | Lawn Fungus ID Help Please I am having difficulty identifying this one.
I think possibly:
Rufous Milkcap - Lactarius rufus
or
Lactarius hepaticus
or
Common Rustgill - Gymnopilius penetrans
But the gill shapes look different. |

You can help yourself quite a bit:
Lacrarius have white, cream or pale ochre spores and bleed milk when the gills are damaged. and Gymnopilus has brown spores and does not bleed milk from the gills.
Put a cap on some paper and cover to prevent drying out and leave over night to see what colour the spores are.

| | | Re: Lawn Fungus ID Help Please Thank you Peter.
I have prepared one cap over paper as you suggest.
There is no bleeding milky or otherwise and I have sectioned one cap to show the sinuate shape and the strong colour of the gills (see below). |

| | | Re: Lawn Fungus ID Help Please Hello,
I bet the spore print will be rusty brown
I think it is a Cortinarius, subgenus Dermocybe. Most probably one of the orange gilled ones, e.g. C. cinnamomeus (but a bit dark for that one).
bestr egards,
Andreas

| | | Re: Lawn Fungus ID Help Please Hello Andreas,
I was looking at Cortinarius orellanus and Cortinarius semisanguineus
The macro seems to show brown spores but I'll get the print.
Thanks.
