| | | very long line of fungi for id I came across this fungi in a mixed, but mainly beech and holly, woodland in south Oxfordshire today. I was amazed that the 'line' continues for at least 40+ metres sweeping around trees and forming an almost complete circle! The largest fungi had a diameter of about 17cm. I have no close up shots but if anyone could give me any indication as to what they are I'd be really grateful!

I have seen such large "fairy rings" of Clitocybe nebularis (Clouded Funnel) before. Do you have any closeup of a specimen?
Cheers,

I am famous for not reading messages completely/properly
But look at this Wikipedia entry: File:Clitocybe nebularis group.jpg - Wikimedia Commons
Looks familiar, doesn't it?

| | | Re: very long line of fungi for id I agree on C.nebularis - I wonder why Marasmius oreades takes most of the credit for growing in rings, when C.nebularis is even more spectacular.
It may be that the latter is more visible on lawns whilst the former is mostly restricted to woods.

How long do these fungi usually last, given the current rainy weather? I want to go back for another look but can't for at least a week. We were last in the wood a month ago and no sign of them then.
