| | | Re: Peziza Here is a good key .... British fungi - Keys
My fingers are dying of cold so I'm just about to retreat to get a hot drink and dance a jig to warm up rather than freeze to death at the computer trying to work it out. Apologies. But from tomorrow I'll have some proper heat in my house at last . A wood burning stove. Central heating sometime in January .... hopefully.

| | | Re: Peziza P.vesiculosa also grows on straw bales, but is not recorded on woodchips as far as I know.
Also the spores are bigger than shown here.
I can not find a match in B&K 1, so now that Melanie has put Brian Spooners keys up, we might find something from there.

| | | Re: Peziza Back in May Chris, myself and a friend found P megalochondra in woodchip. I've just checked the spore sizes of the ones I checked and they were very similar to yours. Paraphyses look very similar. Did you spot any yellow guttules in the paraphyses?
These were the micro details of ours. paraphyses cross-section
I think you might have the same. Its appearance is very similar too. Any slight stipe?

| | | Re: Peziza That looks a dammed good match Melanie, but it's down to that spore size again, 16-17 x 9µm as opposed to 20-23 x 10-13µm given by Spooner (who would be pleased to hear of any finds which do not come within the measurements he has given)

Neil. | Well Chris and my friend (who is also a very good mycologist) decided that the ones we found were that, and came to that conclusion independently too. I wondered about the spore size, but then I'm a mere novice .
Mine were the following:
(13.7) 15.8x18.8 (20.4) x (6.9)8.6x10.3 (10.9) um
average 17.3 x 9.5 Qav 1.8
I don't know if Chris is away right now, he's been rather quiet this last week, but hopefully he'll see this and give his opinion.
Meanie
oops that should read Melanie
