| | | Another for ID please Really struggling with this one...
...which was found growing under birch trees alongside fly agaric and these...
...which I'm pretty sure are Brown Birch Bolete - Leccinum scabrum. (Hope I got that one right! )
As always, all help gratefully received!

The reason you've been struggling with the first is because it's a Cortinarius It looks like one of the species around Cortinarius flexipes though I wouldn't have though it's actually that as yours looks far too substantial. I think it'll be in the toughest section- subgenus Telamonia.

| | | Re: Another for ID please Thanks Nick, trust me to go for the tricky ones! There's a fair few Cortinarius that can be ruled out but we're still left with dozens. C. hinnuleus, C. hemitrichus and C. betuletorum look favourite to me but I guess I'll have to stick with Cortinarius spp.

| | | Re: Another for ID please Hello,
the Cortinarius is with a lot of certainty C. hemitrichus, especially when it was growing together with Leccinum scabrum (under birch).
C. hinnuleus looks completely different in colour, cap structure and veil. C. betuletorum has no white scales on the cap and not a white but a brownish-greenish veil which is hardly visible.
best regards,
Andreas
