| | | Puffball for identification I've collected three specimens of what I assume is the common puffball mushroom but I'm completely new to this game and wouldn't know the difference between this and the pestle puffball or any other similar puffball.
A group of about 20 of these mushrooms were growing out of the side of a drystone wall holding back what I think must be mildly acidic soil because I'm in derbyshire (new mills) which I think's in the the dark peak area.

| | | Re: Puffball for identification I am no expert but I would go for Lycoperdon perlatum (Common puffball) |

| | | Re: Puffball for identification On their own has thrown me completely, and as we are a bit short on the ground with dry stone walls here in a stoneless Suffolk, it would have been nice to see them in situ.
The one on it's own looks more like L.perlatum, but the others seem a bit short, still, as they were all together, I shall take the easy route and go along with L.perlatum.

| | | Re: Puffball for identification yeah ohgreatstew I'm inclined to agree.
and fairplay; that's a really good idea, don't know why I didn't think of that before. I'm gonna go take some pics, possibly now, and hope there aren't too many people hanging round there to watch me being embarassingly uncool (and/or mentally unsound), taking a picture of some mushrooms in the middle of the road at midnight. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
