| | | Fungi under conifer needing ID help The fungi below were all below conifers, I think (maybe) I've got them to genus but would appreciate it if it might be possible to identify them any closer.
1. Amanita sp.
2. Russula?
3. Tricholoma?
4. Clavulina rugosa?
5. Lycoperdon?
The last one is from last February, it was growing through hardcore surrounding the garage where I was getting my car fixed.
6. Peziza? |

C. Rugosa looks right.
The Peziza may well be domiciliana.

| | | Re: Fungi under conifer needing ID help Hello Jenny,
No 1. Almost certainly Amanita rubescens.
No 2. Possibly Russula sanguinaria (sanguinea)
No 3. Tricholoma terreum.
No 4. Clavulina rugosa.
No 5. Tricky this, but I'm going for your everyday Lycoperdon perlatum.
No 6. Peziza sp. The fungus could be growing from soil, wood or even remains of a fire site. Only by scraping away the stones and soil will we know more, and even then a microscope will probably be needed.

| | | Re: Fungi under conifer needing ID help Thanks Neil, Nick and Ken.
I had wondered if the Lycoperdon might be L. umbrinum as it was a very old conifer it was under? Quote: |

| Sometimes I wonder if things are just sitting around waiting for me to spot them - picked up a fallen branch yesterday and found a tiny tuft of Teloschistes chrysophthalmus, the Golden-eye Lichen!

Re-reading your post today, I just spotted your thoughts on L.umbrinum.
To be honest, I hadn't even considered this as it is quite rare but widely distributed, and now that I have been going through my books, especially the one produced by Kew entitled 'British Puffballs, Earthstars and Stinkhorns', I must say there is a remarkable similarity with your specimens so I think you may very well be right.
So if you can retrieve these puffballs it will be a good idea to send them to your county recorder or to your nearest museum, but give each a gentle squeeze first to shed some more spores, preferably raised up in the air to aid dispersal.
Neil.
Oh, and if anyone asks what are you doing, just say you are offering a sacrifice to the mushroom gods.

| | | Re: Fungi under conifer needing ID help Just off to Killarney lichening but I'll go back and see if its still there for a specimen when I get back.
How would I go about finding out who (if anyone) is the fungi recorder for IH3 in the Irish Republic? And I'll offer my libation to the mushroom gods before bagging ..... Pan would seem appropriate |

| | | Re: Fungi under conifer needing ID help Might be best to give the county wildlife trust a ring, or the natural history section at the nearest museum, but you may have a different set up in Ireland.
